What is Search engine optimisation (SEO) and how can it help my business?

All the major search engines use different algorithms to assess how high a site should appear in their natural listings for a particular keyword. Search engine optimisation or SEO is the process of selecting specific keywords for which you’d like to achieve high search engine rankings, and then optimising your site to ensure this. This optimisation process involves a mixture of technical, copywriting and marketing skills. Since over 80% of website traffic comes from Search engines [1] it is vital that you work hard to improve your visibility in these natural listings. If you would like to find out how we can help your site achieve great search engine results, please contact us.

What are pay per click (PPC), CPM and CPA?

With Pay Per Click or PPC online advertising you only pay for the actual clicks on your advertisement, as opposed to CPM deals where you simply pay for a number of impressions.  Whilst PPC can be cost effective, one should also consider the actual number of conversions you get from these clicks. Another payment model is CPA (cost per action) where you only pay for the actual conversion or action. Google has devised a popular model of assigning PCC adverts to keywords and phrases, with advertisers paying a premium for more popular search phrases. Skill and experience is required to obtain the best value from PPC. Lexis Information Systems have experienced consultants who can advise you regarding good PPC practice, please contact us for more information.

An affiliate network is a network of sites or publishers who agree to host links and banners of advertisers in return for commission. There are a large number of networks in the market and it’s important to select the best to gain the optimum return for your investment. If you are interested in using an affiliate network to either promote your services or broker your inventory, Lexis Information systems can offer you advice.

What is IMAP email protocol and why should I use it?

When using the IMAP email protocol your mail stays on the server in multiple folders, including any folders you have created. This enables you to connect to any computer and see all your mail and mail folders. In general, IMAP is great if you have a dedicated connection to the Internet or you like to check your mail from various locations.

What is the POP3 email protocol and why would I use it?

With this type of email account mail is stored in one location on the server, and is accessed using an email client on your own computer. When you open your mailbox, new mail is moved from the host server and saved on your computer. If you want to be able to see your old mail messages, you have to go back to the computer where you last opened your mail.
With this type of account you do not have to stay logged on to the Internet, you only need to log on when you want to receive and send new messages. This email option is useful if you connect to the web via a dial-up connection and are charged for your connection time or you have an older computer.
